Lammertal Theme Walks

Hiking in the Lammertal in SalzburgThe "habitat" concept serves as a means of depicting the intricate interrelationships of this rich region of culture and nature.

Eglsee
Located close to the center of Abtenau is a very special gem, the Eglsee. The "Eglsee Path of Life" was created in order to pro-vide a new way to explore the unique nature and culture of this area. The total walk lasts about two hours and covers some 5km.

My friend, the tree....
In earlier times, man had a very close relationship with trees - ever regarded as a symbol of both human life and of the entire cosmos. Typical trees of our region are described along the Tree Nature Trail in Annaberg/Lungötz.
Marterl-Trail in St. Martin
Marterl = small memorial or altar
Our ancestors used to erect these memorials to mark special occasions. Even today, you can visit these small monuments as you head out on a one-hour walk down a man-made trail, the Marterlweg in St. Martin, consulting your brochure along the way to read the stories behind each of them.

Postalm

Postalm - Hiking holidays in SalzburgA world of Alpine flowers
During the summer, the Postalm is used as summer pasture. Over 100 farmers from the Lammertal drive their young cattle up there to graze. In fact, more than 2,000 calves make this hill country - at 46 square kilometers, the largest such area in Austria - their summer home and source of food. The characteristic vegetation of these hills is a unique environment for plants, with all kinds of species represented: numerous types of gentian, rare orchids, as well as the famous rhododendron.

The Alpine Flower Trail is an easy walk. The loop is about 3 km long and takes around one hour to walk. A display board at the trailhead and over 40 more along the way, allow you to experience this region's fascinating world of Alpine flowers.
